no offense mate, but apple didn't force you or anyone to buy the macbook 6 months ago, nor did apple or adobe make any sort of proclamation that photoshop would be transitioned to intel native version. complaining about this is like complaining your SUV gets bad gas mileage.

is it a pain, sure, and that's why i haven't bought an intel mac yet, i know that too many of my tools won't run as well as i need them to. bottom line, i'm waiting and you should have too.

No offence taken, I know Apple didn't force me to buy their new hardware, but it still doesn't get away from the fact that tools most Apple users use, namely the creative community, are performing sub-standard.

All the Apple schpeel should have been more honest, the claims of 5X performance boost etc were completely unfounded in the most used applications.

That's all I'm asking for here, honesty.

I feel your pain, I bought a imac intel duo because I was tired of working on my g4 processor. Apple, Adobe and I have gone round and round with this issue. Illustrator crashes constantly - costing me time and money. I feel that Apple should offset the cost for all of us when cs3 comes out.

Granted Apple needed to stay competitive in the market - however they should not forget the creative community that worked on their machines, and kept them afloat while they lost market share hand over fist to PCs.

The fine people at Apple public relations admit that macs are the industry standard, but while they have greedily pursued a new market they have left us in the dirt.

With that said I say that we group together as creatives and force Apple to kick us CS3 at no charge! No one at the Apple store ever told me that my little ibook would out preform my imac, and they deserve to pay for it. We as creative professionals MADE them, not the other way round.

there are creatives that have a use for the faster 'books: musicians & filmmakers among others. they do have universal applications. so saying apple is lying to it's customers in the creative sector is not correct.

Apple and Adobe are working close together to get Creative Suite 3 out on UB, but it takes time to transition such a large app over, and as you can read in Adobe's press release on the subject on their site.. they are working hard on it but not willing to rush it to the shelves when it's not ready. I want a macbook, but I'm willing to wait until CS comes out on universal.. until then my G5 will due for creative stuff. It's not slow because the processor is slow.. it's slow because Photoshop is such a massive application and it's running under emulation. I can't wait to be blown away by the speed of universal photoshop running on an intel mac.

So your verdict: the transition was not the worthwhile? In other words, if one could achieve all their design work and aspirations on a normal PC, why switch over to MAC?

Many people who use MAC always find it hard to give a convincing answer as to why PC is inferior apart from good old ranting on IE failings which we could all agree upon.

I have four words for you all: Boot Camp and Parallels. IMO there is no better combination for front-end design. I agree that Adobe CS could and should be faster on the new architecture (and hopefully it will be with CS3), but the time lost to slower rendering etc. is easily made up by being able to develop on multiple platforms and browsers simultaneously ... on the same hardware. If you haven't seen or tried it first hand, do yourself a favor and check it out.

The combo runs flawlessly on my MBP (2Ghz Core Duo, 2GB, X1600 256MB) ... it's something to behold.

@Mez: IIRC the MBP never shipped with a 7200RPM hard drive (did you upgrade?), though I doubt that has much to do with the slower CS performance.
